The Characteristics of Farmhouse Millwork
Farmhouse architecture can trace its course all the way back to America's colonial era when the earliest European settlers built small, functional homes. Over successive generations, the style has changed, borrowing from many of the architectural styles of the time, particularly the symmetrical facades common in the Greek and Colonial Revival periods.
However, farmhouse style architecture has always adhered to the tenets of simplicity and function. Millwork in these homes has always been clean and unadorned. Squared-off or rectangular shapes create a sense of stability, while paneling, larger baseboards, and simple casings help ground the home.
