Farmhouse Moldings, Simple Forms For A Charming Home

The farmhouse style has roots in early American architecture that borrow from traditional farms, Colonial Revival, and even more modern elements from the 1930s and 1940s. The style remains popular, with many homeowners seeking to capture the warmth and simplicity of this classic American style in their own homes.

  • E2E [7/8 x 3-3/4]

Plinth blocks are often used to create a visual transition between baseboards and casing. While plinth may be used in windows and columns, its most common use is alongside door casing. Farmhouse style plinth blocks are designed to be simple, functional millwork.

Farmhouse Baseboard Trim

Like most farmhouse style millwork, farmhouse base trim is simple and uncluttered. Farmhouse baseboards are often taller, affording a more substantial, grounded appearance.

The Characteristics of Farmhouse Millwork

Farmhouse architecture can trace its course all the way back to America's colonial era when the earliest European settlers built small, functional homes. Over successive generations, the style has changed, borrowing from many of the architectural styles of the time, particularly the symmetrical facades common in the Greek and Colonial Revival periods.

However, farmhouse style architecture has always adhered to the tenets of simplicity and function. Millwork in these homes has always been clean and unadorned. Squared-off or rectangular shapes create a sense of stability, while paneling, larger baseboards, and simple casings help ground the home.
