Ready to Ship Trim for Colonial Style Homes

Colonial style homes are inspired by America's history as a cultural melting pot. Architects of the colonial era were influenced by classical architecture of Greece and Rome; however, influence from Dutch, French, and Spanish settlers can be seen in regional variations of colonial period architecture.

Colonial Baseboard

  • 5401 [11/16 x 1-1/4]
  • S4S [3/4 x 7-1/4]

Inspired by Classical architecture, Colonial molding is less ostentatious than Georgian style profiles. Generally, a Colonial baseboard features a flat board with a profiled top edge, often in the ogee shape.

Colonial Crown Molding

  • 3317 [1-1/8 x 3-7/8]

Colonial crown molding takes inspiration from many sources, primarily Roman architecture. Compared to similarly inspired neoclassical styles, Colonial crown molding offers a minimalist profile, relying on the cyma recta or reversa for character.

Colonial Casing #1

  • 1514 [3/4 x 2-1/2]

Colonial casing accents doors and windows, adding depth and enhancing their profile. Colonial door and window trim can feature simpler profiles than other neoclassical styles by relying on the cyma reversa for detail.

Colonial Casing #2

  • 7095 [1-13/16 x 1-3/4]
  • 1247 [7/8 x 3-13/16]

Not all Colonial molding features simple designs. For entryways and hallways, planed surfaces coupled with bead and quick accented casing can be combined with intricate backband profiles to create richly detailed trim profiles.

Colonial Molding Designs

Balance and proportion are paramount to Colonial style moldings. Inspired by classical Roman architecture, most Colonial homes feature two stories, a rectangular floor plan, with symmetrical room design. Classic profiles, including the ogee, cyma recta, and bead and quirk are common in Colonial trim. Learn more about the history and scope of this architectural style
